This bus was built primarily for the London General Omnibus Co. by A.E.C. of Walhamstow, London. It was basically a larger version of the 'K' type (1919-1922).The S type was a goods-coach passenger chassis powered by a J-type 4 cylinder 5.1 litre 35 h.p sidevalue petrol engine eith a three-speed gearbox. It was equipped with rod operated fully manual brakes & worm and wheel rear-axle. The seating capacity was 54, 24 downstairs (inside) and 30 upstairs (outside). It was in service from 1922-1931. |
In 1909 the AEC was founded as the maintenance company of the London bus company, London General Omnibus Company. Until about 1947 it was known as General Maintenance. The London bus company had so much experience with buses for forty years that they had been building them themselves since the First World War. These busses had the General brand name. This model is a Type S, built from 1920 to 1927.
